💨 Abstract
Two Virginia students, Nikhil Krishna and Nived Nandakumar, are tackling the issue of space debris using machine learning. They developed three models to identify, predict trajectories, and assess collision risks of debris, especially the smaller pieces often missed by current tracking methods. Their work won accolades at regional and state science fairs. The students also proposed using a space-based laser system to eliminate debris and aim to raise public awareness about the issue.
