After severe flooding in Western Maryland, Montgomery County dispatched rescue teams to Allegany County. The town of Westernport was hardest hit, with significant water damage to structures. This flooding, though rare, has occurred before, most recently in 1996. FEMA recently ended a program that funded disaster mitigation, which experts say is crucial for at-risk communities.
