A South Carolina man, Jaremy Smith, was sentenced to life in prison for gunning down a New Mexico state police officer, Justin Hare, who had stopped to help him. Smith pleaded guilty to charges including carjacking resulting in death, and he also faces multiple charges in South Carolina for carjacking and killing a woman. The gun used to kill Hare was stolen from the woman's roommate.
