đź’¨ Abstract
The California Assembly approved stricter penalties for soliciting sex from 16- and 17-year-olds, with an exception for cases where the age difference is three years or less. This legislation, which faced internal Democratic turmoil and Republican criticism, aims to protect older teens from exploitation. The bill also includes provisions for a victim support fund, criminalizing loitering to buy sex, and increasing penalties for businesses complicit in sex trafficking. It now moves to the Senate.
