đź’¨ Abstract
Dan Seavey, who helped launch the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and whose family has since dominated the event, died at 87 while tending to his dogs in Seward, Alaska. Seavey, a pioneer of the race, ran it five times and played a key role in establishing the Iditarod Trail as a National Historic Trail. His son, Mitch, and grandson, Dallas, both won the race multiple times.
