💨 Abstract
Thomas Mascia, a former New York state trooper, pleaded guilty to fabricating a shooting incident on Long Island in 2025. He falsely claimed an unknown gunman had shot him, causing a three-day search. Mascia, 34, agreed to serve six months in jail, followed by probation and mental health treatment. He also agreed to pay $289,000 in restitution for the wasted resources.
