💨 Abstract
A non-functional hotline between military and civilian air traffic controllers in Washington, D.C., may have contributed to recent near-misses involving Army helicopters and commercial flights. The FAA was unaware the hotline had failed since 2022 until after the latest incident. Senator Ted Cruz expressed concern, and the Army suspended helicopter flights near Reagan Airport. The FAA is pushing for the hotline's repair before flights resume.
