đź’¨ Abstract

Federal magistrate judges in New Mexico have begun dismissing national security charges against immigrants accused of crossing the southern U.S. border through newly designated military zones, citing lack of evidence that immigrants knew about the zones. Since late April, over 400 immigrants have faced misdemeanor charges for entering these restricted areas. While trespassing charges have been dismissed in at least 120 cases, charges of illegal entry into the U.S. remain.
