đź’¨ Abstract
On April 11, 2025, Mikal Mahdi became the second person in South Carolina to be executed by firing squad this year. However that execution was botched, a pathologist hired by his attorneys revealed. The shots struck lower than intended, only two out of three bullets hit him, and he suffered for up to a minute before dying. Witnesses heard him cry out and groan during this time.
