💨 Abstract
Recent incidents at Newark International Airport have highlighted vulnerabilities in the U.S. air traffic control system, with radar and radio outages lasting up to 90 seconds on several occasions. While these outages increased risk, redundancies in the aviation system prevented collisions. Controllers and pilots have multiple backup systems, including text messaging, portable radios, and emergency frequencies.
