💨 Abstract

A wildfire in southern New Mexico damaged three buildings at the Fort Stanton Historical Site and affected nearby conservation lands. Over a half square mile was burned. Campgrounds and a nearby ranch were evacuated. The fire, which started near a former WWII internment camp, was not contained, with crews working to control it. The blaze is about 15 miles from Ruidoso, hit by severe fires last year. The cause is unknown, with an investigation planned.
