💨 Abstract
Tropical Storm Erick formed near southern Mexico and is projected to intensify into a hurricane by Wednesday. Located about 450 miles southeast of Punta Maldonado, Erick has sustained winds of 40 mph and is moving west-northwest at 12 mph. A hurricane watch is in effect for parts of Mexico's Pacific coast, with heavy rainfall expected across several southern states. Erica is expected to approach the coast by late Wednesday.
