💨 Abstract
The Washington Monument closed through Tuesday, 2025 as an intense heat wave, described as a heat dome, affects much of the Northeast U.S. This heatwave is unusual in its power, which could surpass triple-digit temperatures in urban centers such as Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. The heat deposits dryness early in the summer, when bodies have not had a chance to adjust, posing particular hazards to vulnerable city dwellers.
