💨 Abstract
Hugo Carvajal, a retired Venezuelan general and former spymaster, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and narco-terrorism charges in a Manhattan federal court. He admitted to leading a cartel that aimed to flood the U.S. with cocaine in collaboration with Colombian guerrillas. Carvajal, who advised late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, was extradited from Spain in 2023 after evading U.S. authorities for over a decade.
