💨 Abstract
North Carolina legislators passed a bill to repeal an interim greenhouse gas reduction mandate from a 2021 law, while keeping the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. The bill, supported by some Democrats, aims to benefit ratepayers and Duke Energy. It now goes to Gov. Josh Stein, who can veto it. The bill also allows Duke Energy to seek higher rates to cover construction costs for nuclear or gas-powered plants.
