💨 Abstract
Planting trees, while beneficial, isn't a viable solution to offset the carbon emissions from the top 200 fossil fuel companies. According to a recent study, it would require covering North and Central America entirely with trees, at a cost of $10.8 trillion, far exceeding the companies' market valuation. Additionally, accounting for the social costs of carbon would leave these companies in significant debt.
