💨 Abstract
A wildfire in central California, named the Madre Fire, rapidly grew to over 55 square miles with only 5% containment. It prompted evacuations near State Route 166 and threatened the Carrizo Plain National Monument. Meanwhile, the Wolf Fire in Southern California was 55% contained after burning over 3.7 square miles. Dry, hot weather increased the fire risk across much of the state ahead of the July Fourth holiday.
