💨 Abstract
AOL is discontinuing its dial-up internet service on September 30, 2025. Known for its early internet access, AOL introduced many to the web with its signature beeps and buzzes over phone lines. Despite advancements in broadband and wireless technology, a small portion of U.S. households continue to use dial-up. AOL's decline mirrors the retirement of other old internet services like Skype and Internet Explorer.
