💨 Abstract
The Big Ten and SEC are at odds over the future of the College Football Playoff (CFP) format starting in 2026. The Big Ten favors multiple automatic qualifiers and play-in games for conferences like theirs and the SEC, while the SEC and others prefer more at-large bids selected by a committee. The Big Ten wants a 16-team playoff with conference play-in games, even if it risks top-seeded teams being shut out.
