💨 Abstract
During World War II, NFL players returned to college-level football through military service teams, which played against collegiate programs and were ranking by the AP. Dick Todd, who won an NFL title in 1942, became an AP military service All-American in 1943, playing for Iowa Pre-Flight. Service teams featured strong rosters and challenged collegiate teams, with some notable matches like Notre Dame losing to Great Lakes Naval.
