💨 Abstract
New Jersey's top federal prosecutor, Alina Habba, charged Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver with assault following a confrontation with federal officers at an immigration detention center. McIver's attorney, Paul Fishman, criticized the charges, stating she was performing her congressional duties and that ICE escalated the situation. Simultaneously, the prosecutor's office dismissed misdemeanor charges against Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who was also involved in the incident.
