💨 Abstract

In Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, a court found baseball player Wander Franco, formerly of the Tampa Bay Rays, guilty of sexual abuse and exploitation of a minor. He was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended with the condition he not approach minors. The minor's mother was sentenced to 10 years for exploitation, money laundering, and illicit enrichment. Both were fined. Franco's defense plans to appeal. The case has drawn national and international attention since 2023.
