💨 Abstract

Former Nicaraguan President Violeta Barrios de Chamorro passed away at 95 in San José, Costa Rica, after a long illness. She was the first woman in Latin America elected president in 1990, serving until 1997. Known as the "president of peace," she mitigated the Nicaraguan conflict and promoted democratic transition. Her family plans a religious ceremony in San José, with her remains to return to Nicaragua once the country achieves democracy.
