💨 Abstract

Senador Iván Cepeda dismissed claims that the guilty verdict against former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe was politically motivated. Uribe was found guilty of fraudulent process and penal bribery but acquitted of bribing a prosecutor. This is the first time a former Colombian president has been convicted in a criminal trial. The case, originating in 2012, involved allegations of Uribe's ties to right-wing paramilitary groups.
