💨 Abstract
Donald Trump suspended a U.S. legal loophole allowing small packages to enter the country tariff-free. This closes a backdoor for major Chinese e-commerce platforms like Shein and Temu and will result in higher costs for consumers: Tariffs will now apply to these goods. The Administration has extended this measure globally: It had previously targeted China and Hong Kong. The decree also mandates that the origin of packages be declared, impacting millions of U.S. consumers who buy from abroad.
