💨 Abstract
Colombia's President Gustavo Petro and Peru's President Dina Boluarte have heightened tensions over the small island of Santa Rosa in the Amazon River. Both countries claim sovereignty over the island, which emerged from a natural event in the 1970s. Peru argues that Santa Rosa is part of the originally assigned Chinería Island, while Colombia states that it was not assigned to any country post-1929 demarcation.
