💨 Abstract
A citizenship error led to Sarah Shaw, a New Zealand citizen living legally in the U.S., and her 6-year-old son being detained by U.S. immigration authorities for over three weeks. Shaw, who had a work permit but an expired travel permit, was detained when returning from Canada. Despite attempts for a humanitarian permit, she and her son were sent to a detention center in Texas.
