💨 Abstract
Finland’s parliament voted to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention on antipersonnel land mines, aiming to bolster defenses against Russia. The move, backed by 157 lawmakers, reflects increasing regional concerns about Russian aggression. Finland, along with Latvia and Lithuania, seeks to use land mines to defend their territories. The International Committee of the Red Cross warned that this could endanger civilians and reverse decades of humanitarian progress. Almost three dozen countries, including Russia, have not joined the treaty.
