In their inaugural game, the Golden State Valkyries lost to the Los Angeles Sparks 84-67, with Kelsey Plum scoring 37 points for the Sparks. Despite the loss, the atmosphere was electric with a sellout crowd at the transformed arena in San Francisco. Vanessa Hayes led the Valkyries with 19 points. The Sparks, under new coach Lynne Roberts, won their season opener, with Plum's impressive debut being a highlight.
