Alex Lodise, a shortstop from Florida State, was named the national college baseball player of the year, winning the Dick Howser Trophy. Lodise, a junior from Jacksonville, led the nation with impressive stats, including a .394 batting average, 17 home runs, and 68 RBIs. He also excelled defensively, committing only five errors in 216 chances.
