The Kansas City Royals designated Rich Hill, 45, for assignment, ending his record-tying 21st major league season. Hill went 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA in two starts. He played for his 14th team, tying the major league record. Hill had 90-76 record with a 4.02 ERA over 388 games. Thomas Hatch was called up from Triple-A Omaha.
