White Sox rookie Shane Smith, who pitched in the All-Star Game, was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a sprained left ankle. Though details about the injury are scarce, his absence was made retroactive from last Wednesday, shortly after the All-Star Game in Atlanta. Smith, a 25-year-old right-hander, holds a 3-7 record with a 4.26 ERA in 18 starts.
