💨 Abstract

Ailsa Craig, an uninhabited island off southwest Scotland, is renowned for its super-dense granite used in curling stones for the Winter Olympics. The island's unique "common green" and "blue hone" granite are crafted by Kays Curling, which has supplied stones since the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Kays produces up to 2,000 stones annually, with Canada being its largest market and increasing demand from Asian countries.
