Longtime Virginia Representative Gerry Connolly, 75, announced he will not seek reelection next year due to a recurrence of esophageal cancer. He has served in the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and is a vocal advocate for federal workers. Connolly plans to step down from his committee post soon and has served 30 years in public service. A younger House member is expected to succeed him as the committee's ranking Democrat.
