💨 Abstract
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin vetoed a bill that would have allowed African American history courses to count toward high school graduation requirements. The bill, introduced by Del. David Reid, aimed to give students and parents a choice between African American History, AP African American Studies, and traditional World History or World Geography. Youngkin's veto stated that replacing World History with these courses would deny students foundational knowledge, though African American history can still be taken as an elective.
