Washington Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary underwent knee surgery for a torn meniscus and is out for the rest of the team's playoff run. Fehervary, who averaged 19 minutes per game and was their top penalty-killer, suffered the injury while blocking a shot. Alexander Alexeyev, who had been a healthy scratch for most of the season, replaced him in the lineup for Game 1 against Montreal.
