Japan's Emperor Emeritus Akihito, 91, will undergo heart tests at a hospital due to an unspecified issue detected during a routine checkup. He is expected to be hospitalized from Tuesday at the University of Tokyo Hospital. Akihito, the father of current Emperor Naruhito, abdicated in 2019 and is the first emperor to marry a commoner, Empress Michiko.
