Judge dismisses jury in Canadian hockey sexual assault case after complaint about defense behavior -
💨 Abstract
Judge Maria Carroccia dismissed the jury in the trial of five Canadian hockey players accused of sexual assault after jurors complained of feeling laughed at by defense attorneys. The players, who are not currently on NHL rosters, face charges related to an incident in 2019 with a 20-year-old woman. Both prosecutors and the woman allege that she was intoxicated and coerced. The lawyers defended their actions, claiming the woman initiated sexual activity.
