đź’¨ Abstract
Mali's media regulatory body banned the French television channel TV5 Monde over "defamatory remarks" about a pro-democracy protest. The channel reported that security forces prevented access to a site, which the authorities denied. This move follows a pattern of restricting media freedoms by Mali's military regime, which, along with allies in Burkina Faso and Niger, has blocked other channels and arrested dissenters.
