💨 Abstract
A plane crash in southern Mexico near the Guatemalan border killed two Guatemalan pilots and a Mexican engineer. The aircraft was distributing sterile flies to combat the spread of the screwworm, a parasitic larval pest. This effort is part of increased measures to control the infestation, prompted by a U.S. ban on Mexican cattle imports. The screwworm can cause severe damage and lesion to warm-blooded animals including humans and livestock.
