💨 Abstract

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck northeast of the Dominican Republic, causing minor damage and power outages in Puerto Rico's Utuado town. The quake occurred 48 miles north-northeast of Punta Cana at a depth of 42 miles. At least a dozen aftershocks followed. The region is seismically active due to the convergence of the North American and Caribbean plates.
