Canada will meet NATO’s 2% GDP military spending target by early 2026, five years ahead of the previous timeline. Carney cited aging military infrastructure and excessive reliance on the U.S. Carney also emphasized diversifying defense spending away from the U.S., and Canada is in discussions with the EU for defense acquisitions.
