💨 Abstract

Representatives from Congo and Rwanda signed a peace agreement in Washington, aiming to end decades of conflict exacerbated by the M23 rebel group supported by Rwanda. The deal includes terms for territorial integrity, prohibition of hostilities, and integration of armed groups. However, previous peace talks failed, and M23 is one of over 100 rebel groups in mineral-rich eastern Congo, displacing millions. The new agreement hopes to reduce violence and stabilize the region.
