đź’¨ Abstract
Centuries-old monasteries on the Mount Athos peninsula in Greece have sustained damage from a series of earthquakes, with a magnitude 5.3 quake striking on June 7. Significant damage includes severe cracks in the 10th-century Monastery of Xenophon and harm to religious frescoes. Mount Athos, a crucial Orthodox Christian site and home to 20 monasteries, operates as a self-governing monastic republic with strict traditions.
