💨 Abstract

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has closed its offices in Niger and withdrawn its foreign staff following a February order from the ruling junta. The ICRC expressed its willingness to continue humanitarian work. The junta accused the ICRC of supporting terrorist leaders, a claim the ICRC denied. The ICRC had been active in Niger since 1990, assisting over 2 million people. Niger's military rulers have distanced themselves from Western allies, aligning instead with Russia.
