💨 Abstract
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to visit the flood-devastated towns of Eastern Cape province. At least 78 people, including many children, have died due to heavy rains and severe weather. Rescue efforts have been slow due to a lack of resources. Ramaphosa’s visit follows criticism of the authorities' initial response, with villagers expressing the need for psychological support after witnessing horrific deaths. More bodies are expected to be found as water levels recede.
