💨 Abstract
Spain secured an exemption from NATO's 5% GDP defense spending target, maintaining its alliance participation. Prime Minister Sánchez announced that Spain will spend 2.1% of GDP instead, keeping its commitments. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and Sánchez agreed on the exemption to prevent summit disruptions. Spain had the lowest military spending, 1.28% of GDP, and planned to increase it to 2%.
