💨 Abstract

Main opposition leader Tundu Lissu in Tanzania was allowed to represent himself in his treason trial after being denied private meetings with his lawyers. Lissu, arrested in April for calling for electoral reforms, claimed that his conversations with lawyers were monitored. The court allowed him to directly engage with the prosecution and urged swift investigations. Lissu also protested the denial of basic rights, including the right to worship, and his detention in a section for death-row inmates.
