💨 Abstract
On July 17, 2025, a fire at a mall in Kut, Iraq, killed 50 people, including women and children. The governor declared three days of mourning and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and legal responsibilities. Previous fires in Iraq, such as those in 2021 and 2023, have been linked to poor building standards and illegal materials. Legal cases have been filed against the mall and building owners.
