💨 Abstract
In northeastern Italy, flamingos are causing significant damage to rice crops, particularly in Ferrara province. These birds, originally from nearby nesting grounds, have started feeding in flooded rice paddies, leading to substantial crop losses. Farmers are using loud noises to scare them away, but the birds often just relocate to other fields. Ornithologists suggest planting tall barriers and reducing water levels in paddies as more effective solutions to deter the flamingos.
